If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

How the progress estimate works

The reading time estimator gives you a honest estimate of how long it will take to finish a book from this catalog. It uses the word count of the specific edition and your own reading pace to produce a number of minutes.

The median book in this library contains about 65,000 words, which at a moderate pace takes roughly 284 minutes. But your own pace may differ, and the estimator lets you adjust for that.

Word count

Each title's word count is the foundation for the estimate. It is taken from the actual text, not an approximation.

Reading pace

Enter the number of words you read per minute. The estimator divides the book's word count by your pace to get a reading time.

Time categories

Books are also grouped into broad time ranges: quick, steady, immersive, and marathon. These help you pick a book based on how much time you can set aside.

Reading Tracker Guide

Making Progress One Page at a Time

The Reading Tracker is a simple tool for a simple purpose: to help you finish a book by recording your progress in pages. It does not track sections or minutes; it tracks pages, and that is exactly what you need to build a sustainable reading habit.

How the tracker works

You enter the current page you are on, the total number of pages in the book, and a daily page goal. The tracker then calculates how many pages remain and estimates how many days it will take to finish, based on your goal. It also estimates the remaining time in minutes, using the book's estimated reading minutes and the proportion of pages remaining.

If the catalog does not have an exact page count, the tracker estimates it by dividing the word count by 250. For example, City Crimes; Or, Life in New York and Boston — A Closer Reading has 118,900 words, so the estimated page count would be 476 pages. You can replace that estimate with the actual page count from your own edition, if you have one.

Setting a daily goal that fits your life

The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it to anything that works for you. If you are a fast reader or have more time, you might set 30 or 40 pages. If you are busy, 10 pages might be more realistic. A useful approach is to choose a number you can stick to, because the tracker's value comes from consistency, not speed.

For a book like City Crimes, which is about 476 pages, a 20-page daily goal means you would finish in about 24 days. If you increase the goal to 30 pages, you finish in about 16 days. The choice is yours, and the tracker lets you see the trade-off between daily effort and time to completion.

Using the tracker with your own edition

Because the catalog's page count is an estimate, you might find that your physical or digital edition has a different number of pages. That is fine. The tracker allows you to enter the total pages from your edition, so your progress is accurate. You can also update your current page as you go, and the tracker will recalculate your remaining time and finish date.

Your progress is stored in your browser's local storage, so you do not need an account. This means you can close the page and come back later, and your data will still be there. The tracker is a private tool for your own planning, not a social platform. It is designed to be simple and unobtrusive, so you can focus on the reading itself.
